Creativity
New media, and social media specifically, allows users to create and post anything they want as long as it follows certain guidelines. Visual content is in high demand and is what keeps people on new media sites and is what gets people coming back for more. Where there is a demand, there will be someone who is willing to supply it. According to Barnes, back in 2007, when Soulja Boy's "Crank That" hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, many creators compiled a bunch of clips from Nickelodean and put them together to make it seem as if Spongebob was rapping the song which has accumulated over 7 million views. New media can also foster creativity because of what you see online. This allows users to draw inspiration from different creators and put their on flare on it and make it unique and creative.
